Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Announces Demolition of Vacant Properties Begins

Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss announced that the first of 19 properties will be demolished on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at 8:45am. The property is located at 263 22nd Avenue Street, Irvington.

“There are many neighborhoods in the town that are blighted by vacant and abandoned buildings,” said Mayor Vauss. “Not only are these properties eyesores, and often filled with garbage and other debris, they also bring down the value of the other homes in the area. The buildings can become a place where rodents breed and people who are up to no good hang out. As part of my commitment to make Irvington clean and safe, we are beginning to take these buildings down.”

Ted Green, Director of Housing and Buildings, indicated, “This is the first phase of demolition under this administration. Our plan is to take down all of the blighted and dilapidated buildings in the town so that our neighborhoods have a chance to thrive. We should have all of the 19 properties down by January 2015.”
