Mayor Tony Vauss of Irvington announced that the Township is on schedule for meeting its goal to demolish a total of 19 abandoned houses by the end of 2014. As of Friday, 15 of the houses on the list had been torn down. During the week of December 1st, the following properties were razed: 31 Rosehill Place; 145-147 Maple Avenue; 96 – 22nd Street; 295 – 21st Street; 115 Ellis Avenue; and, 119 Ellis Avenue.

“As promised, we are taking down these blighted, abandoned houses,” said Mayor Vauss. “With each house we tear down, the neighborhood improves and the quality of life of the residents increases. These demolitions open up space for redevelopment and tax ratables.”

“The residents are calling us and thanking the Mayor for taking these dangerous eyesores down,” said Ted Green, Director of Housing and Buildings for the Township. “Some properties, like 515 – 21st Street, were hideaways for drug dealers and users. Now that the building is gone, so are they.”
