Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Hosts Senator Booker for a Park and Walk

Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss hosted United States Senator Cory Booker for a Park and Walk throughout parts of the business district of Irvington. During the walk, The Mayor had an opportunity to introduce the Senator to business owners and residents, as they discussed the successes and challenges faced by the Township. A few weeks ago, the Mayor met with the Senator in Washington, to begin their discussions about how the federal government could provide much needed resources to the Township. This visit continued that discussion.

“I am very pleased to have Senator Booker walk with me, the Council members, and members of my administration, along Springfield Avenue,” said Mayor Vauss. “When we met in Washington, he promised to come visit us on our home turf, and he did just that. The community was very pleased to see the Senator and to witness how the Town is working with our federal representative.” Mayor Vauss also took the opportunity to thank the Senator for a $1 million grant the Township was awarded by the federal government that will enable Irvington to hire at least eight (8) more police officers.

Councilman Vern Cox, who also walked with the Mayor and the Senator, remarked that “I am happy to see that all of our federal elected officials have taken the time to come to Irvington. Senator Booker, Senator Menendez, and Congressman Payne, are giving the people of Irvington the attention they deserve. It is great to see Mayor Vauss working so collaboratively with them and officials at the county and state level.”
