Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Hosts Senator Menendez for a Park and Walk

Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss hosted United States Senator Robert Menendez for a Park and Walk throughout parts of Irvington. The visit provided an opportunity for the Mayor to show the Senator some targeted issues he is addressing in the town. A few weeks ago, the Mayor met with the Senator in Washington, to begin their discussions about how the federal government could provide much needed resources to the Township. This visit continued that discussion.

“I am very pleased to have Senator Menendez here in Irvington,” said Mayor Vauss. “When we met in Washington, we had very productive talks. This time I was able to introduce him to our Council people and the staff at Town Hall. We then visited a day care center where he could meet the children and see one of our very productive local businesses. From there, we walked to a brook that constantly floods the homes in its immediate vicinity. We plan to work with the Senator to find a solution for this problem.” Mayor Vauss also took the opportunity to thank the Senator for a $1 million grant the Township was awarded by the federal government. The funds will allow Irvington to hire additional police officers.

Senator Menendez remarked that “although there are more than 500 towns in New Jersey,” in his tenure as a United States Senator, “many mayors have never made their way to my office. Mayor Vauss came and asked for directed help based upon a vision.”
