Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Leads the Township’s 9/11 Commemorative Service

2015_911_memorial_serviceIrvington Mayor Tony Vauss led the Township’s September 11th Commemorative Service. He was joined by members of Council, as well as Police Director Tracey Bowers and Fire Director John Brown, and Police Chief Michael Chase and Fire Chief John Tierney.

“It has been 14 years since the dreadful events of 9/11 occurred,” said Mayor Vauss. “It changed all of our lives in some way. Time has a way of helping some people to forget the sacrifices made by first responders, and the loss of lives of so many civilians. Irvington will not forget. Today we remember and say ‘thank you’ to our heroes of 14 years ago. We also say thank you to several of our public safety officers – police and fire personnel – who have placed their lives in danger to make Irvington a safer place to live.”

At the service, Police Officers Ramiro Rodriquez and Edward Pearce were honored for arresting armed gunman. Detectives Christopher Jenkins and Andres Lebron were thanked for their arrest of a carjacking suspect. Firefighters James Hamilton-Williams, Tom Williams, and Deon Bascom, were shown appreciation for responding to a fire on Stuyvesant and Lyons Avenues, while off-duty, to assist on-duty crews. Probationary Firefighter Cynthia Cargua was honored for aggressively fighting a fire on Grove Street where she sustained injuries.
