Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss unveiled the Township’s new excavating equipment in front of the Township’s Municipal building, accompanied by Councilpersons Verne Cox and October Hudley, as well as members of his Cabinet and fire fighters.

“This investment in excavating equipment now allows the Township to demolish abandoned buildings in a more cost effective way,” said Mayor Vauss. “This will allow us to make our town a cleaner and safer place to live and at a faster pace than hiring outside companies.”

“Although we have demolished about 40 buildings since Mayor Vauss took office about one year ago,” said Irvington’s Housing Director Ted Green, “having our own equipment will speed up our work.”

The Township’s Business Administrator Musa Malik, Department of Public Work’s Director Jamel Holley, and Fire Chief John Tierney all talked about how the excavator will be an important tool for meeting the Mayor’s goals.

“Demolishing more of these abandoned buildings will help to reduce the fires in our town and protect the lives of our residents and firefighters,” said Irvington’s Fire Director John Brown.

The Town plans to accept bids of excavator operators to do the work. This will provide economic opportunities for qualified individuals.
