Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss Urges Qualified Seniors who Owned Homes on October 1, 2013 to Apply for Homestead Rebate

Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss urges seniors who owned and lived in their homes on October 1, 2103, and who meet the income requirements set by the State of New Jersey, to apply for the 2013 Homestead Rebate. The deadline for the application is October 30, 2015. Seniors who are possibly eligible should have received their applications in the mail in August. It contains the detailed information and the worksheet they would complete in order to determine their eligibility. The rebate comes in the form of a check or tax credit on their property taxes.

“We realize that taxes can create a financial burden on homeowners, particularly our seniors who are on fixed incomes,” said Mayor Vauss. “The State’s Homestead Rebate program is one way to alleviate at least a bit of this burden. It is important to remember that although the application is being sent in by October 31, 2015, this is for seniors who qualify and who owned and lived in their homes on October 1, 2013 (not 2014).”

The application can be completed online or by telephone at 1-877-658-2972. All information is on the form. If you did not receive a form or have questions, the Homestead Hotline number is 1-888-238-1233 and is available 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday except holidays.
