Irvington Receives a $250,000 Award from FEMA for Emergency Generator

Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss announced that the Township of Irvington is the recipient of a $250,000 award from FEMA. This is a Hazard Mitigation grant for the purchase of two generators. One generator will be located at the Gatling Center and the other will service Town Hall, the Municipal Court, and the Public Safety building.

“I thank FEMA for the award of these funds,” said Mayor Vauss. “This will enable us to purchase a generator for the Gatling Center, and prepare for the safety of our residents, as we will then have two places – Wagner Place being the second – to shelter residents when needed. The second generator will make sure that Town Hall, the Court, and Police and Fire, will be able to operate during a power outage. A safe environment is one of my primary goals for my town. This is a major step in fulfilling this responsibility.”

The Gatling Center is being renovated and is expected to reopen in a few months. It has the space to shelter hundreds of residents.
